What Our Photobooks Are Made Of
We use archival and acid free semi gloss paper in all our photo books to ensure print longevity and colour accuracy as well as to provide improved smudge and moisture resistance. This paper is certified for use with the Hewlett Packard Indigo 5500 Digital Offset Press employed to print your photo books.
All photo books are printed on heavy weight 216gsm paper. Optional textured paper at 170gsm and 250gsm are also available.
Each page of our layflat photo books is printed on 216gsm paper and carefully laminated onto a PVC sheet which is sandwiched between adjacent pages. This provides a high degree of rigidity which allows the pages to lie perfectly flat when opened.
Debossed hardcover books are available in linen wrap with a range of 17 different colours, which can be selected during the ordering stage. 1700gsm calendared chipboard is used for the cover base, on which the finishing materials are applied.
Fullwrap and layflat book covers are specially printed on a HP Designjet Z3200 Photo Printer using only HP certified photo paper and then gloss or matte laminated for a lustrous and durable finish. The cover base is, like our debossed books, also made from 1700 gsm calendared chipboard.
Premier photo book covers are wrapped in a selection of leather material on to a 1700gsm calendared chipboard. Special industrial book binding adhesive is used to ensure very strong adhesion between chipboard and the underside of the leather material. Custom blind deboss stamping is applied on the leather material to give a premium finish to the book cover.
Softcover book covers are printed on acid free 300 gsm paper and gloss laminated.
Hardcovers (fullwrap, debossed and premier series) are side-stitched and then carefully case bound using industrial bookbinding adhesives to ensure maximum durability.
Layflat books do not require any side-stitching and are case bound to allow the pages to open flat.
Softcover books are side-stitched and perfect bound, that is, the pages are attached at the spine with strong yet flexible glue.
We also offer a range of premium cover materials that are available upon requests such as leather, buckram, PU, batik, songket, suede and silk for your bespoke photo album. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Our photobooks are printed on a Hewlett Packard Indigo 5500 Digital Offset Press. Only HP manufactured Electroink liquid inks are used in the print process.
The printing workflow is fully color managed and configured with the standard sRGB input colour profile. Printer calibration is done on a monthly basis (and over a shorter period if required) to ensure consistent colour rendition. In practical terms, our printers work very hard to ensure that your 10th repeat order looks just the same as the first one.
One minor caveat: Whilst we make every effort to ensure the highest quality output, slight colour variances in printing or cover materials can occur from time to time as a consequence of factors outside of our control.
The books are printed at a resolution of 200 dpi (dots per inch). As with photographic prints, the sharpness of the prints is also dependent on other external factors including camera equipment, exposure and focus.
Photo book longevity
As with all printed material, photo books should be properly stored and not exposed to extreme changes in their surrounding environment. If well looked after, the printed pages should have an indefinite lifespan.
